Main content: The abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathway is involved in plant responses to drought and salt stress. Although the ABA signaling pathway has been elucidated in Arabidopsis, it remains undiscovered in woody poplar. In this study, genome-wide analysis of poplar U-box genes showed that the U-box E3 ubiquitin ligase gene PalPUB79 was significantly induced after drought, salinity and ABA signaling. The results showed that PalPUB79 positively regulates the ABA signaling pathway, providing new insights into the mechanism by which PalPUB79 enhances ABA-mediated stress responses in woody poplar.
